Jacob Naff, Sr.'s will was probabete 6 October 1806. He was buried in Family Cemetery. The Naff family came from the Palatinate, or the border area of Germany and Switzerland. From Zurich emigrants traveled for four to six weeks by barge and river boats down the Limmat, Aare and the Rhine rivers the 400 miles to Rotterdam, Holland. Tolls were paid at some 26 custom houses along the route. From Rotterdam ships sailed to England, usually landing at Cowes, Deal or Dover. This leg of the trip took one to two weeks. Seven to twelve weeks were required to complete the journey from England to Philadelphia. Jacob Naff arrived in Philadelphia on 26 September 1749 aboard the ship "Dragon."
Jacob Naff sold himself into servitude to pay his passage to America. His brother, Sebastian, who had come to America earlier bought his brother's contract after three and a half years. Jacob then settled in Franklin County, Pennsylvania along the Susquehanna River. He may have moved to Frederick County, Maryland next in about 1770. In 1782 he moved his family to Franklin County, Virginia. His farm was the north and south forks of the Magadee Creek. He became a Dunkard minister.
