The Angle name is also spelled "Angel," "Angli" and "Angles." It means "dwelling in the nook or outlaying spot. The name originated in the Angelin area of Germany, east of the Elbe River, between Selswick and Flensburg. In the 5th century some emigrated to England and into Portou, France.
In 1681 the British King, Charles II, paid a debt to William Penn's father by granting Penn senior 40,000 square miles of land in America: Pennsylvania. Penn invited Germans from Rhinelanders-Palatinates to settle the new land.
